Mathers reveals Wildcats exit

Wakefield Wildcats full-back Richard Mathers has revealed he will be leaving the Rapid Solicitors Stadium at the end of the Super League season.

The 30-year-old posted a statement on Twitter on Tuesday night outlining his intention to leave the club after not being offered a new contract.

Mathers joined the Wildcats from local rivals Castleford Tigers in 2011 but the flyer, who has scored 21 tries in his 64 appearances, is now set to explore options elsewhere.

He posted: \"I'll be leaving Wakefield at the end of the season. I've had three great years at the club.

\"All the players have played their part with the culture, banter, togetherness we have built from nothing.

\"Wish Webbo [head coach James Webster] and Kimo [skipper Danny Kirmond] and the loyal fans all the best for the future and I know I'll leave with mates for life.\"

Mathers went on to reveal that the lack of a new deal from the Wildcats prompted his decision.

\"For the record I 1000 per cent wanted to stay,\" he Tweeted.

He added: \"Absolutely gutted to be leaving the boys but can't wait around forever for a deal.\"
