Mathews reigns again in Liverpool
Derry Mathews became British lightweight champion for a second time after earning a split decision victory over Martin Gethin in Liverpool.
Mathews first won the title by beating domestic rival Anthony Crolla in 2012 before losing it to Gavin Rees later that year, and was looking to bounce back from a loss last time out against Stephen Ormond.
The 30-year-old home favourite did exactly that as cards of 117-113 and 116-112 gave him victory, despite one judge scoring the fight 115-114 in Gethin's favour.
On the undercard, the flamboyant Chris Eubank jr made it 15 wins from 15 fights in the paid ranks as he floored gritty Pole Robert Swierzbinski no less than seven times before securing a seventh-round stoppage - despite leaving his boots in his hotel room which forced the fight to be delayed.
Liverpool's 2012 Olympian Thomas Stalker (8-0 2KOs) earned an 80-73 points win over Ryan Hardy.
