Maze solves victory puzzle

Slovenia's Tina Maze won the opening World Cup race of the season with victory in the giant slalom event in Soelden, Austria, on Saturday.

Maze completed her two runs in a combined two minutes 31.41 seconds to finish ahead of Austrian pair Kathrin Zettel and Stefanie Koehle.

Zettel was the closest challenger, but she still finished 42 seconds behind the Slovenian.

American Lindsey Vonn failed to finish.
