McCain eager for King run

Donald McCain is keen to get another run into Diamond King before committing to a run in the Neptune at the Cheltenham Festival.

The dual bumper winner made an excellent start to his jumping career at Wetherby in November, but then suffered a shock defeat when only third at Bangor.

He got his season back on track in some style at Doncaster last week and McCain is hopeful his six-year-old can earn himself a trip to Prestbury Park in March.

"He's grand and I would like to think he's the sort of horse who only does as much as he has to," said McCain.

"They only really got racing from the second last to the line the other day, so it was a good performance. I wanted to run him over further than two miles really, but we decided to go to Doncaster for the ground.

"He'll get an entry in the Neptune and his next run will tell us whether he'll go for that or not."
