McCarthy pleased with Town showing

Mick McCarthy was delighted with the performance of his Ipswich players as they ground out a 2-0 win over Gillingham.

Neither side would have been accustomed to the temperature at Priestfield, but the Tractor Boys quickly adapted to the conditions, with Alex Henshall and Luke Hyam scoring.

"It was a good workout for the lads, especially in the intense heat that both teams had to play in," McCarthy told Ipswich's official website.

"I thought we played well and I thought we deserved to win.

"I can't remember Gerks (Dean Gerken) having a save to make and I was thoroughly pleased with the performance.

"We're playing well and we've come through another game without picking up any injuries, so I'm very pleased."
