McCarthy to return with Rovers

Tyrone McCarthy will return to Super League after signing a two-year deal with Hull KR.

The Ireland World Cup forward has been playing in Australia for Northern Pride, but agreed to link-up with Rovers for next season.

McCarthy left Warrington at the end of the last campaign and the 26-year-old back-rower believes he has benefitted from his brief spell in the southern hemisphere.

"It's been a great experience playing in Australia and it's going to leave me in good stead coming back to Super League with Hull KR," said the three-time Challenge Cup winner.

"I could have stayed at Warrington this year and been comfortable but I wanted a challenge. I've developed physically and I'll be coming back bigger, stronger and probably the fittest I've ever felt."

McCarthy becomes the club's sixth signing and will fill the void left by Rhys Lovegrove who is heading in the opposite direction to Australia.

Hull KR coach Chris Chester said: "Tyrone gives us plenty of options in the forward pack next season. He's at the age where he is about to enter his prime as a forward and he's had big raps over in Australia for his professionalism both on and off the field, so he'll be a good fit for us."
