McClaren will look at loans

Steve McClaren will look to take advantage of the loan market again as he pieces together his plans at Derby County.

A push to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final in 2013/14 was aided by six loanees - Simon Dawkins, Andre Wisdom, Michael Keane, Zak Whitbread, Patrick Bamford and George Thorne.

Thorne has been acquired on a permanent basis this summer, but is now facing up to nine months on the sidelines after damaging knee ligaments.

That setback means cover will be required in midfield, while Derby are also eager to bolster their attacking options.

McClaren still has time in which to bring in players on a full-time basis, but he will also be looking to tie up short-term deals as he tries to plug the gaps in his squad.

He said in the Derby Telegraph: \"We are always looking to improve.

\"I think there are still two or three positions we still need to work on and we are doing that.

\"The loan window will be good for us.

\"There will be some good players available and we utilised it (the loan market) very well last season and need to do the same.\"
