McCoy to race Zara Phillips

Tony McCoy will take on former eventing world champion Zara Phillips in a special race at the Barbury International horse trials.

The JCB Champions Challenge on July 5 is a star-studded charity equine event, where jump jockeys, eventers, show jumpers and the winners of a hunt scurry contest will compete in teams over a specially designed course, including a water jump, in the main arena.

On Phillips' team are the highly-decorated trio of William Fox-Pitt, Sir Mark Todd and Laura Collett, while McCoy, who recently completed his quickest ever half-century of winners, will be alongside John Francome and Sam Twiston-Davies.

Nigel Bunter, Barbury chairman, said: "In addition to the world class eventing on show, we are delighted to be hosting such an exciting and unique competition at Barbury. We are also delighted to be supporting the Injured Jockeys Fund, who provide such an important role to the entire equestrian community."

Francome, the IJF president, said: "Visitors to Barbury are going to be treated to some serious competitive riding in the JCB Champions Challenge.

"I am now in intense training and using the Oaksey House gym every day. I've also gone into the loft and my original racing breeches are ready for action!"
