McDonald makes Tranmere switch

Tranmere have signed free agent central defender Clayton McDonald to non-contract terms.

The 25-year-old, who lists Walsall, Port Vale and Grimsby among his former employers, will be given a chance to prove his fitness at Prenton Park after impressing on a trial basis.

"Clayton isn't quite there with his fitness yet but I've been encouraged by what I've seen in training and the pre-season games and agreeing non-contract terms with him means he can be included in our squad," boss Rob Edwards said on Rovers' official website.

"He'll get better and better the fitter he gets, and we can sit down and discuss his future with him then."

McDonald will be available to Edwards when he takes charge of his first competitive game in management against York this Saturday.
