Mark McGhee insists he will not go out to sign players simply for the sake of it as he looks to lead Bristol Rovers up the League Two table.
The Scot, who took over as manager at the Memorial Stadium last week, saw his reign begin with a 2-0 victory at Cheltenham on Saturday.
And he has stressed there is no need to panic buy with an already talented squad at his disposal.
"We want the strongest team we can have out there and if we can bring someone in that's going to improve the 11 that start then others are going to be knocked down the pecking order," he said.
"That's up to them to then reassert themselves. I have fears of that. I think it is about the type you bring in and the quality you bring in.
"If I bring in a good player the rest of them like that. If I bring in a player just for the sake of it and the rest of them see he's no better than what we've got then that just dilutes things so it's no use."
