McIlroy up for PGA Tour award

Rory McIlroy is the only non-American on a five-man shortlist for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award for 2012.

The Northern Irishman finished the season at the top of the rankings on both sides of the Atlantic and is currently the clear world No 1.

The 23-year-old won four of the 16 events he entered in 2012 with victories at the Honda Classic, the PGA Championship, the Deutsche Bank Championship and the BMW Championship.

His stellar season has earned him the PGA of America Player of the Year title, and he is favourite to double up with the PGA Tour award.

The 2010 US Open winner is nominated alongside Masters champion Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker and Jason Dufner.

Charlie Beljan, winner of the weekend's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic despite a health scare, has been nominated for the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

Jonas Blixt, Bud Cauley, John Huh and Ted Potter are the other players on the shortlist with Cauley the only one of the five not to record a victory in 2012.

However, Cauley managed a total of six top-ten finishes, which was higher than any other rookie on the PGA Tour.
