McMahon hails Akpa-Akpro

Tranmere assistant manager John McMahon has hailed the impact of Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro following his return to the club.

The striker was recalled from his loan spell at Bury, where he made 10 appearances, in time to play 90 minutes for Rovers in the goalless draw with Carlisle on Saturday.

Akpa-Akpro's performance impressed McMahon, who told Tranmere Player: "I thought he came in and did really well. He looks as if he's lost a bit of weight from when he left.

"He's come back and got a point to prove which is what I wanted and what the group needs - people who are hungry and want to improve. There are a lot playing for contracts and their livelihoods.

"For whatever reason this season it's not happened for him. But he continues to be a threat, he continues to be a part of the plans and hopefully he can produce some goals for us.

"He gives us another option and when you come to the last throws of the season you need everyone you can muster up.

"Good characters and good players like Jean-Louis need to be around the club and what we're trying to achieve."
