McPherson out for Reds

Salford will be without Australian forward Shannan McPherson for Sunday's Challenge Cup fifth round clash with Leeds.

The prop aggravated a knee problem in last weekend's Super League defeat at Wakefield and will now face up to three weeks on the sidelines.

City Reds boss Phil Veivers has challenged his players to produce a strong performance against the Rhinos after four successive defeats.

He told MEN Sport: "We have chatted at length this week as a group about what is needed to get back on track to win ball games.

"Maybe there has been a bit of frustration - we will certainly need to be at our best against Leeds."

Leeds coach Brian McDermott could name an unchanged side for the trip to the Salford City Stadium.

McDermott has selected the 17 players who featured in last weekend's 34-18 home win over the Catalan Dragons in his 19-man squad.

Hooker Paul McShane and prop Brad Singleton, who has made one appearance this season against London Broncos, are the two additional players drafted in.
