Mel left frustrated by defeat
West Brom boss Pepe Mel admitted they threw away away all three points after surrendering a 2-0 lead to lose 4-3 to Aston Villa.
The Baggies raced into an early 2-0 lead at Villa Park thanks to Chris Brunt's strike and an own goal from Fabian Delph before Villa turned the game on its head with goals from Andreas Weimann, Leandro Bacuna and Delph.
Youssouf Mulumbu drew West Brom level before half-time but Christian Benteke scored the all-important winning goal from the penalty spot in the second half to leave Mel still looking for his first win in charge of West Brom.
The Spaniard was frustrated by his side's failure to hold onto their lead and believes he must try and instil a strong mentality in his players as they look to bounce back from this setback.
"Yes, of course (we threw it away)," lamented Mel. "The first 15 mins were good for us. But it is incredible to score three goals away and score no points."
When asked about the penalty decision for Benteke's winner, Mel said: "For me, there was the same in the other box. But we need to think about the other match now.
"We need to improve our defending. The first goal was a mistake.
"Now I need to work hard because I need a strong mentality in the players ."
