Menu takes pole position
Alain Menu left it late to claim pole position for the World Touring Car Championship round at Sonoma in California.
Menu claimed his forth pole of the season in the Chevrolet, the Swiss driver starting Sunday's races in third in the overall points standings.
Italian Gabriele Tarquini, fourth in the standings in the SEAT, had looked on course for pole until Menu made his late move.
France's championship leader Yvan Muller and Britain's Rob Huff qualified third and fourth for Chevrolet, with Norbert Michelisz (BMW) and Alex MacDowall (Chevrolet) filling out the next two spots on the gird.
Tom Coronel suffered in the first qualifying session when he spun his BMW on new tyres and Ford pair James Nash and Tom Chilton also failed to impress.
