Mihajlovic happy at Sampdoria

Sinisa Mihajlovic insists he never considered leaving Sampdoria this summer after signing a new contract.

The Serbian coach signed a one-year deal with the Genoa outfit on Tuesday which will keep him at the club until June 2015.

Mihajlovic replaced the sacked Delio Rossi in November and successfully guided Samp to 12th place in Serie A.

"My renewal was never in doubt," Mihajlovic said to Sampdoria TV.

"The club did everything I asked for, I just needed a few days to reflect.

"It was never a problem as far as I was concerned, I just wanted to know the club's plans and speak to those people in charge of transfer strategy.

"Nobody can give guarantees, but just as Samp has faith in me, I have faith in the people who work for this club."

Mihajlovic is already planning for next season, adding: "Our aim is to do better. As always I will try to give my all and bring the best out of these players.

"It won't be an easy campaign, but we will try to impress. I will go on holiday with my family now but I can't wait to get the season started."

Mihajlovic, who spent four years at Samp during his playing career, is satisfied with how his team responded this season.

"I got along well with the players and they got along with me," the 45-year-old said. "The only thing I always ask of them is to listen otherwise, as Dante (Alighieri) said, they can go straight from paradise to hell.

"Next year the players will do well.

"From the moment I arrived the squad quickly got the right mentality and I am convinced that with more time we will do even better.

"A few players will leave, others will stay, but those who remain will certainly give their best."
