York manager Gary Mills hailed his side as they halted a run of two straight defeats with a 0-0 draw with Gillingham.
After leaking eight goals in their past two games, Mills was pleased with the way his side responded and he was also pleased with the impact Michael Rankine had after rejoining the club on loan from Aldershot.
"That was a whole-hearted and committed performance from us to get a result," said Mills.
"We got a clean sheet as well that we are thankful for after what has happened over the past few weeks. It's not been easy for us, but to put in a performance like that I thought my players were outstanding.
"We were on the front foot first half and I think they only had the ball in our box about three times. We had to do a bit more second half but I'm pleased for everyone at this football club that we've got a clean sheet.
"If you get a clean sheet you don't lose and it's as simple as that.
"When you concede goals everyone looks at the back four and the goalkeeper but that starts at the front. Michael's performance upfront was immense.
"We didn't create as much second half but his performance was outstanding for me and it's possibly what we've missed in recent weeks."
