Mixed emotions for Turner
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner expressed mixed emotions following the departure of Liam Cooper to Leeds.
Cooper, 22, completed his transfer to the Championship club on Wednesday in a deal thought to be worth in the region of £750,000 with clauses and add-ons.
While Turner is sad to see the Spireites lose the highly-rated central defender, he believes it proves that last season's League Two champions are a club who are at least doing something right.
"We're disappointed to lose a player of his calibre but we feel the fee is fair for a player in the last year of his contract, and it is a great opportunity for him," said Turner.
"While we're sad to lose Liam, it does show we're developing players and winning games at the same time."
