MLB: Athletics rout Yankees

Early three-run homers from Derek Norris and Coco Crisp set the Oakland Athletics on their way to a 10-5 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Norris smacked a three-run shot off Vidal Nuno in the first frame and Crisp did likewise in the second, while Jesse Chavez limited the Yankees to one run on five hits over six innings.

Kansas City stretched their winning run to seven games and secured a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 6-3 triumph at US Cellular Field.

Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez belted huge homers for the Royals - Hosmer crushing a two-run shot in the first and Perez knocking a three-run blast in the third - while James Shields allowed three runs and 10 hits over six innings.

The Cincinnati Reds trounced the Milwaukee Brewers 13-4 at Miller Park on the back of home runs from Billy Hamilton, Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier.

JD Martinez's sacrifice fly, following Oswaldo Arcia's defensive error, gave the Detroit Tigers a walk-off 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park.

Kyle Seager had four hits and three RBI, and Hisashi Iwakuma threw eight solid innings as the Seattle Mariners ended a five-game skid with a 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers, while rookie second baseman Tommy La Stella highlighted a four-run sixth inning with a two-run double as the Atlanta Braves toppled the Los Angeles Angels 7-3.

Jerry Sands singled home the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning to guide the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros, and Travis Wood held Philadelphia hitless through 5 1/3 innings and allowed only three hits over eight as the Chicago Cubs saw off the Phillies 3-0.

Nick Swisher connected in the 11th inning to lift Cleveland to a 3-2 success against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, securing the Indians a split of the four-game series, and Casey McGehee's walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning handed the Miami Marlins a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Elsewhere, the New York Mets prevailed 3-1 against the San Diego Padres, the Colorado Rockies rallied for an 8-7 win over the San Francisco Giants, the Toronto Blue Jays overcame the Baltimore Orioles 5-2, the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals 5-2 and the Arizona Diamondbacks got past the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3.
