MLS: Beckham news due soon
David Beckham could become the owner of a Major League Soccer team in Miami within the next 30 days.
MLS commissioner Don Garber said an announcement is expected in the next month regarding Beckham's bid for a Miami club.
The news is an encouraging sign for the former England captain, who is bidding to obtain an expansion team in Miami that would become the 22nd team in the North American league.
The England star has been given the opportunity to purchase an expansion team at a discount, reportedly $25m, as part of the 2007 deal when he joined MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.
Beckham's bid had been recently stalled as talks for the building of a new stadium continued with city officials.
"I was down there this past weekend and I have been down there a lot, working with potential ownership and trying to finalise a stadium plan," Garber said at the MLS draft in Philadelphia.
"Right now, we have got a lot of work to do and we will announce something in early February."
