MLS trio eye Christie move

Sky Sports understands Coventry City defender Cyrus Christie has emerged as a target for several Major League Soccer sides.

Christie is out of contract at Coventry and looks set to leave the club after turning down the offer of a new deal to stay with the Sky Blues.

The news has alerted a host of clubs in the UK and abroad, with Christie regarded as one of the best young defenders in the country.

Christie, who has come through the ranks at Coventry, has already amassed more than 100 starts for the club despite only being 21.

Several Premier League and Championship sides are thought to be weighing up moves for the full-back, but several foreign sides are also tracking Christie.

Coventry would be in line for substantial compensation from a tribunal if Christie joins another English club because he is under 23, but if he moves abroad he will not fall under compensation restrictions and that has alerted some MLS clubs.

The likes of Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls and DC United are all thought monitoring Christie's situation as he would be an attractive proposition on a free transfer.
