Mofeed aimed at Trial date

John Oxx's Akeed Mofeed could be aimed at next month's Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.

The Currabeg handler had hoped to run the Dubawi colt in last weekend's 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown with a view to a possible crack at the Classic itself at Newmarket.

But having gone lame in his preparations for Leopardstown, Oxx was forced to rule his charge out of both races.

Akeed Mofeed is second only to Camelot in the ante-post betting for the Investec Derby at Epsom in June and his trainer hopes to see his credentials tested at Leopardstown on May 13.

"He's coming along OK. It wasn't a serious injury, but the timing of it was serious, which is unfortunate," said Oxx.

"He had a week walking last week and he's having a week trotting this week. It means he will have gone 16 or 17 days without having a canter, but hopefully he'll be back cantering next week.

"He was fit and ready to run when he had the setback, which is a positive, so hopefully, he should just about make the Derrinstown."
