Mohsni doubles up for Rangers

Bilel Mohsni scored twice as Rangers claimed the 32nd win of their Scottish League One campaign with a 2-1 victory over Ayr United at Ibrox.

The win moves the third-tier champions to 98 points with two games remaining as they bid to complete their season without suffering a league defeat.

Ayr started well with Craig Malcolm squeezing a shot just wide on eight minutes, before Rangers warmed to their task with Fraser Aird's clever back-heel setting up Jon Daly, only for the Irishman to fire over the bar.

A largely uneventful opening was livened up when Mohsni and United boss Mark Roberts involved themselves a touchline spat when Mohsni faked to throw the ball at Roberts, who responded by kicking the ball at the Rangers player.

The hosts made the breakthrough nine minutes after the break when Mohsni jumped highest to meet Aird's corner, powering his header past the motionless David Hutton.

Hutton did well to deny Ian Black moments later and the visitors were level on 69 minutes when Arnold Peralta's woeful back-pass allowed Scott McLaughlin to play in Alan Forrest and he poked the ball home.

Peralta's punishment was to be substituted almost immediately and his replacement, Nicky Clark, helped Rangers reclaim their lead.

With Ayr pinned in after a corner, Nicky Law threw across a inviting ball which Clark met with a firm header and although Hutton clawed the ball away, he could do nothing as Mohsni pounced on the rebound to smash home his 12th goal of the season.
