Moore: Returning stars a boost

Ronnie Moore is banking on his injured stars to lend a new lease of life to Tranmere's promotion push when they return over the next month.

Rovers remain top of League One on goal difference having battled their way to four draws in five winless games over recent weeks when injuries have pushed Moore's squad to breaking point.

But captain James Wallace is targeting a Boxing Day return in midfield from his medial knee ligament problem while Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Abdulai Bell-Baggie are poised for January comebacks having suffered a broken metatarsal and lateral ligament knee damage respectively.

"We're hoping Wallace will be back for the Crewe game on Boxing Day," Moore said.

"Akpa Akpro starts running this week. That's the first time for two months because he's got this metatarsal that had to be pinned but we're looking at January 12 which is (when Rovers play) Crawley. Bell-Baggie will probably be two weeks after that.

"That's why we need to stay on the coat-tails of the the big-hitters that are in and around us. If we can dig in and stay in that top six until everybody's fit then hopefully we can push again."
