Morgan retains Test desire

Eoin Morgan retains his hunger and ambition to play in England's Test team - and hopes good form in the County Championship will help force his way back into the side.

The 27-year-old has played 16 Tests but last featured for England in this form of the game back in February 2012 against Pakistan.

Rather than play in the IPL, Morgan is now concentrating on showing good form for Middlesex in the County Championship in the hope of earning an international recall.

He told Sky Sports: "There's five games now in six weeks and to play continuous Championship cricket without any Twenty20 or One Day cricket in between is great.

"There's some great continuity in it and certainly if I find if I can get some runs in that period and put myself in some form maybe I'm in with a shout (of making the Test side.)

"If I was to get back in, certainly my role has always been in the middle order. It's getting myself in and allowing myself to express myself and ultimately scoring a weight of runs."

Asked why people view Morgan as a Twenty20 and One-Day specialist, he replied: "I think predominately because I've had a little bit of success in Twenty20 and ODI cricket and probably haven't had that much success in four-day or even Test match cricket.

"But again, when given the chance, I absolutely love my time in the Test side, I scored two centuries which, again, highlights of my career to date.

"But again that hunger is still there and ambition is still there to play Test cricket, hence why I've come back early.

"Fingers crossed. If I can get enough runs I certainly think I'm in with a shout."

Ashley Giles, England's limited-overs and Twenty20 coach, is one of the candidates to replace Andy Flower as head coach and Morgan has been impressed working with him so far.

"Ash has been fantastic since he's been involved. Obviously I've only played under Andy Flower and Ashley Giles and the two of them have been fantastically good to me.

"Ash brings a calmness to the changing room, very clinical side to him as well and his strategies are really good. I've worked with him and I've thoroughly enjoyed his company."
