Mullens blow for Team GB

Great Britain's men's basketball team have been dealt a blow with the news Byron Mullens will miss the Olympics due to injury.

The Charlotte Bobcats centre was one of just three athletes that play in the NBA due to represent Team GB at this year's Games but his long-standing toe complaint will force him to miss out.

Mullens was born in Columbus, Ohio but his mother is from Middlesex, which made him eligible to receive his passport in March.

Head coach Chris Finch said: "It is disappointing but we have a very strong squad in camp with us in Houston at the moment.

"Everyone here is focused on the task at hand and we now turn our attention to our first warm-up games of the summer this week."

Detroit Pistons shooting guard Ben Gordon is still to join the squad as he continues his training in America and Finch added he expects the situation to be reassessed next week.

Both Mullens and Gordon have not yet represented Team GB, who face their first test of the summer with a friendly against Nigeria on Thursday evening.

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng is with the British camp in Houston although he will not feature in the game.
