Murray through but Moore out
Great Britain's Samantha Murray secured safe passage into the US Open second qualifying round on Wednesday.
But compatriot Tara Moore was unable to make it through.
Murray defeated Australia's Arina Rodionova in straight sets in their first-round contest, winning 6-4 6-1, and will now meet American Taylor Townsend.
Moore battled back after losing the first set of her clash with Colombian Catalina Castano to claim the second in comfortable style, but was then undone in the third, with her opponent taking the match 6-4 1-6 6-4.
The other female Briton through to the next stage of the three-round qualifying tournament is Elena Baltacha, who won her first-round match yesterday and is to face Ukraine's Olga Savchuk.
In terms of British men in qualifying, James Ward advanced to round two yesterday and he was joined today by Dan Evans, who got past Canadian Peter Polansky 6-2 6-3.
