Nadal cruises through

Rafael Nadal booked his place in the third round of the Barcelona Open with a 6-1 6-2 victory over compatriot Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

The world number two, who is unbeaten in the event since 2005 having missed out in 2010 due to injury, fashioned 15 break point opportunities and broke his opponent six times in his 81-minute victory.

Nadal will play Colombian qualifier Robert Farah in the third round after the world number 248 - who was born in Canada - surprisingly outlasted another Spaniard, Pablo Andujar, 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 7-5.

Another Colombian, world number 24 Santiago Giraldo, booked a third-round date with Andy Murray after overcoming Dutchman Robin Haase 6-4 6-3 in their 76-minute encounter.

Third seed David Ferrer beat Igor Andreev 6-4 6-1, fifth seed Janko Tipsarevic eased past Romania's Victor Hanescu 7-5 6-4, and seventh seed Feliciano Lopez beat Flavio Cipolla of Italy 6-4 6-3.

Other winning seeds were Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Albert Ramos and Kevin Anderson, but 15th seed Bernard Tomic was the biggest casualty as he slipped 6-0 5-7 7-5 to Spain's Albert Montanes.

Finland's Jarkko Nieminen saw off Argentinian lucky loser Edouardo Schwank 6-3 6-7 (7-4) 6-4, while in an all-Portuguese showdown, Frederico Gil ended the run of qualifier Joao Sousa 4-6 6-4 6-3.
