New Derbyshire deal for Footitt

Derbyshire have retained the services of fast bowler Mark Footitt until the 2013 season after he signed a contract extension.

The 26-year-old joined from Nottinghamshire ahead of the 2010 campaign and has since taken 38 first-class wickets, in 13 matches, at an average of 30.86.

Footitt has been selected for Derbyshire's opening two matches of the new season after impressing on their pre-season tour of Barbados - including a dramatic three-wicket final over win in the Twenty20 clash with Hampshire.

The left-arm bowler has thanked the club for their faith in his ability and he remains intent on bringing as much success as possible to Derbyshire during his time at the County Ground.

"I would like to thank Derbyshire County Cricket Club for the faith they have shown by extending my contract for another year," Footitt told the county's official website.

"I will always run in hard for the cause, try to bowl fast and look to get wickets. Hopefully that entertains the spectators and - if I continue to do it well - it will bring rewards.

"My sole focus for the next six months is to bowl well for Derbyshire and help us win as many matches as possible in all competitions.

"We've got a great team spirit and loads of talent in the squad, so I believe we can build on our excellent start to the campaign and make it a successful year."

Head coach Karl Krikken said: "Strike bowlers are a precious commodity in all forms of cricket so I'm delighted to offer Mark a contract extension.

"Left-arm fast bowling at Mark's pace will always create a handful for opposition batsman and he is capable of bowling devastating spells."
