David Clarkson scored the winner in the third period as New Jersey beat New York 3-2 to square their NHL Eastern Conference finals series.
The Devils looked set for defeat in game two of the series but they rallied brilliantly to win 3-2.
Ilya Kovalchuk's power-play goal in the first had given the Devils the lead - but they found themselves 2-1 down 12:19 into the second thanks to efforts from Marc Staal and Chris Kreider.
Ryan Carter squared things up with 1:51 to play in the second, then Clarkson tipped in Adam Henrique long shot 2:31 into the third for what proved to be the winner.
The Devils will look to take the lead in the series in game three in Newark on Saturday.
