New Widnes deal for Carberry
Liam Carberry has signed a new one-year contract with Widnes, the club have confirmed.
The young hooker has yet to make a Super League appearance for the Vikings after breaking his leg and damaging ankle ligaments during a pre-season friendly.
But head coach Denis Betts, who signed the 21-year-old from Wigan in the off-season, believes Carberry has huge potential and is keen to retain him for next year.
Vikings head coach Denis Betts: "Liam has been unlucky with injury this year but we believe it's in our own interests to develop the potential we have seen in him.
"He's a young kid who has worked hard since he's been here and we feel he deserves another opportunity with us. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Widnes shirt in the not so distant future."
Carberry added: "I'm over the moon to be re-signing at the Vikings. It's a special club and to be involved for another year is great for me.
"I joined the club last year and worked hard to get myself right after an injury set back, so to get injured again on the eve of Super League was a big blow for me.
"However, I've worked hard since then and I'm only a couple of weeks away from playing again and I'm keen to repay the faith Denis and the coaching staff at Widnes have shown in me.
"I can't wait to get out there and pull on the Vikings shirt and show the supporters what I can do."
