Newcastle ease to friendly win

Debutant Emmanuel Riviere was amongst the scorers as Newcastle cruised to an emotional 4-0 friendly win over Sydney FC.

Riviere marked his promising debut with a goal after good work from Yoan Gouffran, while Siem de Jong scored his second goal in two friendly games.

A deflected effort from defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa helped the visitors into a 3-0 lead after just 30 minutes, while Adam Armstrong rounded off the scoring late on.

Newcastle strolled to a victory which was dedicated to fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney, two men who were amongst the 298 who were aboard the doomed MH17 flight that crashed near Ukraine last week. Wreaths were laid for the two men before the game by manager Alan Pardew and captain Fabricio Coloccini, while Pardew dedicated the game to them.

Riviere looked impressive in his first game in Newcastle colours, combining well with de Jong and the excellent Rodolfo Aarons, as Newcastle cruised to their first victory of the summer.

The striker, a 5million summer signing from Monaco, needed just 26 minutes to open his account with the Magpies taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

The Magpies scored three times in the space of 14 first-half minutes a de Jong took full advantage of goalkeeper Ivan Necevski's 19th-minute error before Riviere and then defender Yanga-Mbiwa struck.

Newcastle keeper Rob Elliot had only one save to make to deny Corey Gameiro after the break, and substitute Adam Armstrong rounded off the scoring seven minutes from time.
