Newcastle next for Royale Knight
Royale Knight is being aimed at the Betfred Eider at Newcastle on February 22 following his fine run in Warwick's Classic Chase.
Dr Richard Newland's eight-year-old is laden with stamina and won the Scottish Borders National at Kelso prior to finishing third behind Shotgun Paddy last time out.
"He'll go for the Eider next, he's in good form," said Newland.
"It might be bottomless there, and though he handles quicker ground he's all about stamina so the deep ground makes it more of a test.
"He was a little bit unlucky at Warwick as the ground was actually a fair bit drier than they were expecting, if it had been heavy he might have finished even closer still but they just quickened away from him in the straight.
"He'd need to win again to get into something like the Scottish National and the ground is usually much quicker by then, anyway."
Another useful staying chaser Newland trains is Night Alliance, winner of the Tommy Whittle at Haydock but pulled up back there in the Peter Marsh.
"Nothing has come to light, he stopped very quickly," said Newland.
"I think he'll have a run over hurdles in a couple of weeks somewhere as his hurdles mark is much lower."
