Newcastle v Stoke preview

Alan Pardew will be without Cheick Tiote after the midfielder picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 3-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Having come off the bench to find the net at Selhurst Park, Hatem Ben Arfa could return to the starting line-up in Tiote's absence.

Otherwise, the Newcastle boss has no new concerns with Ryan Taylor his only long-term absentee due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam starred off the bench in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa, scoring the opening goal, and Mark Hughes may be prompted into rewarding him with a start.

Hughes also has Stephen Ireland available for selection once again in midfield after he was forced to sit out against his parent club.

Defender Robert Huth is a definite absentee and he will miss all of the Christmas fixtures as he recovers from a knee operation.
