Newton hits the Jackpot
Wes Newton registered his first Premier League win and heaped more misery on Adrian Lewis with a 7-3 victory in Exeter.
The Fleetwood debutant consigned an out-of-sorts Lewis to his fourth successive defeat in this year's competition to move out of the relegation places, where he is replaced by Gary Anderson.
In a tense encounter lacking quality, Newton held his nerve on the doubles to claim a first win in four attempts.
Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, he said: "That's the most nervous I've ever been playing darts in my life!
"It was a massive game for both of us. That wasn't the Adrian Lewis everyone knows - he's 100 times better than that. I had to win and I tried as hard as I could and thankfully got the win."
Raymond van Barneveld finished off the night's action with a highly-impressive 7-3 victory over Simon Whitlock to strengthen his title claims.
'Barney', who is yet to lift the Premier League trophy, joins Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Robert Thornton on six points at the top of the table after three wins from his opening four matches.
Australian Whitlock rattled in six 180s - the most of the evening - but was left to rue a mixed finishing display as he crashed to a third defeat.
