NHL: Kane punishes Kings
Chicago Blackhawks strengthened their hold at the top of the Western Conference Central division as they saw off Los Angeles Kings 5-3 on Monday.
Patrick Kane netted a brace for the Blackhawks with additions from Bryan Bickell, Marcus Kruger and Nick Leddy as the Kings equalled their goal total from the previous six games as Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar and Tyler Toffoli got on the scoresheet.
While Ryan O'Reilly scored a power-play goal in overtime as Colorado Avalanche defeated New Jersey Devils 2-1.
Ryan Carter opened the scoring for the Devils and PA Parenteau equalised for the Avalanche before O'Reilly struck the winner.
Meanwhile, Pacific Division leaders Anaheim Ducks suffered a 4-2 loss at home to Columbus Blue Jackets to make it two defeats on the bounce.
Ryan Johansen and RJ Umberger put the Blue Jackets 2-0 up before Mathieu Perreault got one back for the Ducks, but a further goals from Nick Foligno meant Ryan Getzlaf's effort was in vain.
Philadelphia Flyers were conquers in another high-scoring match as they were 5-2 victors at San Jose Sharks.
Matt Nieto's two goals in the first period put the Sharks in the lead after Mark Streit had scored the opener for Philadelphia, but Matt Read, Michael Raffl, Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek scored consecutive goals in the third period to win it for the Flyers.
In other games, Edmonton Oilers beat Buffalo Sabres 3-2, Pittsburgh Penguins claimed a 2-1 overtime victory over Ottawa Senators, and Detroit Red Wings prevailed 2-0 against Vancouver Canucks.
