No problem for Tipsarevic

Top seed Janko Tipsarevic eased into the quarter-finals of the ATP Mercedes Cup with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Steve Darcis of Belgium.

The Serbian converted four of his six break-point opportunuties and sent down five aces to go through in Stuttgart after one hour and 19 minutes.

The news was not so good for fellow seed Pablo Andjuar, however, as he was knocked out by fellow Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the second round.

The fourth seed, who was beaten in the final of the clay-court event last year, fought back from a disastrous opening set to level matters but was then blown away in the decider, losing 6-1 4-6 6-1.

Garcia-Lopez will next play German wild card Dustin Brown, who hit 19 aces in beating Benoit Paire of France 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-1.

Elsewhere, Bjorn Phau defeated Lukas Rosol, winning two tie-breakers to progress 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) at the expense of the man from the Czech Republic.

Rosol, who stunned Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the second round of Wimbledon, had knocked out fifth-seeded Robin Haase of the Netherlands in the opening round in Germany.
