Northamptonshire and Durham had to settle for a point each as the weather ruined their Natwest t20 Blast encounter at the County Ground.

In a contest that had been reduced to 15 overs a side by a late start, only 10 overs of the first innings were possible as a second heavy downpour of the evening finished things off with Durham on 69 for four.

It means that the Steelbacks have six points from eight games and their opponents five from seven in the North Division.

When play got under way at 1945 BST, Durham opener Phil Mustard lost his off stump to David Willey from the first ball of the third over as the visitors made a sluggish start after winning the toss.

He was quickly followed by Calum MacLeod, after a couple of neat boundaries, caught at cover and Paul Collingwood, uppercutting to third man next ball, in Olly Stone's second over.

The powerplay ended with the score at a paltry 34 for three and it did not get any better when Ben Stokes pulled Steven Crook to deep midwicket for eight.

Mark Stoneman (27 not out) had stood fast at the other end and along with Gordon Muchall (16no) had pulled things round to some degree when the rain arrived to bring an end to proceedings.
