No stopping Wolves duo

Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning were in tremendous form at Wolverhampton.

Middleham trainer Johnston bagged a treble, with all three ridden by Joe Fanning, who made it a personal four-timer with victory in the concluding Ladbrokes Handicap on the Bryan Smart-trained Smalljohn.

Johnston and Fanning had got the ball rolling when Cosquillas broke his duck at the third attempt in the Maiden Stakes, with the 10/1 shot hanging on by a head from Warbrook.

Sir Charlie Kunz brought up a Johnston-Fanning brace when landing odds of 1/2 by half a length in the 32Red Casino Handicap, and it was three when Doldrums (2/1) took the 32Red Fillies Handicap.

Red-hot Fanning completed his work in the best possible style when 5/2 favourite Smalljohn displayed his toughness to beat Funky Cold Medina by a length, having been second at Dunstall Park as recently as last Friday night.
