Northants will let Hall leave

Former captain Andrew Hall and all-rounder Matt Spriegel will be released by Northamptonshire at the end of the season.

The 39-year-old Hall is nearing the end of a lengthy spell with the county as he arrived back in 2007 and skippered the side from 2010 to 2012.

Hall, who represented South Africa at international level, has been a regular in the relegation-bound County Championship team, but has played a reduced role in limited-overs cricket.

Spriegel joined Northants from Surrey in 2012 and played every match of the team's successful Twenty20 campaign the following year.

David Smith, the club's chief executive, said: "These are always difficult decisions to make regarding players futures, but they are always made in the best interests of moving the club forward over the next few years.

"The club wishes to place on record its sincere thanks to both players for their commitment throughout what has been a difficult summer for everyone connected with Northants Cricket."
