Duo propel Holland to victory

For the second day running, Stephan Myburgh and Cameron Borgas batted Holland to victory in Clydesdale Bank 40 Group A.

Following Sunday's dramatic win over Gloucestershire, Worcestershire were Monday's victims.

Rain delayed the start at Kidderminster before the hosts reached 172 for four in a revised allocation of 27 overs.

Vikram Solanki made 63 and James Cameron 38 while the late hitting came from Daryl Mitchell, with an uncharacteristic 31 not out from 15 balls, and Alexei Kervezee with 15no from four. Mudassar Bukhari took three for 29.

Holland were initially set 152 to win from 22 overs, reduced to 139 from 19 following further rain.

They made short work of the target upon the resumption, Myburgh hitting seven fours and four sixes in a blistering 74no from 50 balls and Borgas adding 55no from 43 as they wrapped up a nine-wicket win with 13 balls to spare.

Gloucestershire beat Middlesex by five wickets in an abbreviated clash at Lord's.

John Simpson's 29 was the highest of five contributions in the 20s as Middlesex battled to 155 for eight in 26 overs.

Ed Young impressed with the ball for the second successive day, following his two for 31 against Holland with three for 26, while 19-year-old Graeme McCarter took three for 41 on his county debut.

Hamish Marshall gave Gloucestershire a flying start with 33 from 22 balls, an innings harshly ended when he was given out lbw to Ollie Rayner.

But Benny Howell, another player with a big score under his belt from yesterday, saw them home with 45 not out.

The other game in Group A, between Leicestershire and Essex, was abandoned without a ball bowled.

Scotland joined Holland in recording a comfortable victory, beating Nottinghamshire by 18 runs under Duckworth/Lewis in Group B.

Nottinghamshire were restricted to 219 for seven in their 40 overs, Josh Davey and Majid Haq with two wickets apiece.

Notts captain Chris Read hit a rapid 59 and put on 53 with James Taylor (34) before Steven Mullaney (26no) continued the late momentum.

But it was not enough as openers Calum MacLeod (58no) and Josh Davey (44no) saw Scotland to 108 without loss from 23 overs before rain set in.

Hampshire hammered Glamorgan by 48 runs, also under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Glamorgan could only make 173 for seven in 34 overs after winning the toss. Opener Stewart Walters played the key role with a patient 68 and Nick James made 37 but late wickets prevented the Welsh side kicking on.

The result was never in doubt once Hampshire openers Michael Carberry (60) and James Vince (83) hammered 142 in just over 22 overs.

They were 151 for two when rain stopped play, a long way ahead of par.

There was no result in a 10-over Group C clash between Northamptonshire and the Unicorns.

After an eventual 6pm start, Luis Reece top-scored with 27 not out and Unicorns stalwart Keith Parsons was 20no as their side reached 79 for three, Con de Lange taking two for 19.

Northants could only reach 16 for one from 10 balls before play was halted.
