Unchanged England were put into bat in the second Test after Brendon McCullum won the toss for New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
McCullum had made his intention clear on Wednesday to bowl first if he got the chance, and was true to his word on a sunny Thursday morning.
The Kiwis also stuck with the same team who were held to a stalemate after an England fightback in last week's rain-shortened first match of three in Dunedin.
