O'Shea ready for Clermont
Harlequins will "go for it" when they take on mighty Clermont Auvergne in Saturday's crunch Heineken Cup clash at the Stoop, says coach Conor O'Shea.
The French giants arrive in London four points clear at the top of Pool 4, but defeat to Quins could see them pushed into second place ahead of the final match of the group phase.
between the two clubs 23-16 in France back in October.
Quins are hoping to become the first club to qualify for the quarter-finals after losing their opening two matches. But they must beat Clermont for that to happen.
O'Shea told Sky Sports News that making Heineken Cup history was "not something we have talked about," but admits they are "desperate" to beat the visitors.
"Doing the double against Racing Metro has given us a chance," he said. "It comes down to playing an incredible side like Clermont. We'll become a better side for playing in matches like this. The players just cannot wait to get out there at the Stoop."
Quins snatched what now looks to be a crucial losing bonus point at Clermont with a last-gasp drop goal.
O'Shea said: "We're not into moral victories - it was still a loss. But we'd gone through a very difficult start to the season because of form, injuries, players being unavailable. We wanted to put a marker down in that game about us as a group. We felt we created a lot of opportunities. But that was a long time ago.
"I'm just going to name their backs: Sitiveni Sivivatu, Aurelien Rougerie, Napolioni Nalaga, Jean-Marcellin Buttin at full-back, Wesley Fofana in the middle of the field - it's a mouth-watering task.
"The guys are desperate to get out and put in a performance. We'll approach this by going for it. It's the only way we can - if you try any other way against them you will die a slow death.
"The people who come down to the Stoop on Saturday are going to witness a great game of rugby. The forecast is for it to dry up so we'll do our best to make the pitch dry and give it a good crack."
