O'Sullivan edges past Perry

Ronnie O'Sullivan overcame an almighty scare to see off the challenge of Joe Perry and reach the quarter-finals of the World Championship.

The five-time reigning world champion was on the ropes at 11-9 down but produced his best when he needed it most to reel off four successive frames - including back-to-back century breaks - and claim a 13-11 win.

O'Sullivan, who is now unbeaten in 12 Crucible matches in a run dating back to 2011, will next face Marco Fu or 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy in the last eight.

Breaks of 53 and then 52 were enough for O'Sullivan to level the match at 11-11 and the 'Rocket' upped the ante with a wonderful break of 124 to take the lead in the match for the first time.

Perry's spark appeared to have gone and a loose safety shot by the 39-year-old from Cambridgeshire in the 24th frame gave O'Sullivan his chance and he took it in style firing off a break of 113 to round off a remarkable sequence of frames.
