Obliterator set for Derby trial

Ger Lyons has his heart set on running Obliterator in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown before aiming even higher this summer.

The County Meath handler is convinced the colt still has the potential to become a force in a Classic, even after his heavy defeat in the Feilden Stakes at Newmarket.

Obliterator was beaten seven lengths by True Story, but had previously looked the real deal at the Curragh when victorious on his sole start as a juvenile.

Lyons said: "I'm adamant he should go for the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, and then, depending on how that goes, the Irish Derby or Royal Ascot.

"The Irish Guineas is not ruled out yet either.

"He has come out of the race at Newmarket well, and we know there is buckets of learning in him."
