Ochieng eases Prize fears

Erick Ochieng has been cleared to leave hospital after he collapsed during Saturday's welterweight Prizefighter

The Londoner slumped in the corner after a hard-fought points win over Paddy Gallagher in the opening quarter-final at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Ochieng was taken out of the ring on a stretcher, but fears about his health have been eased after hospital tests did not show any serious injuries.

Promoter Eddie Hearn tweeted: "Just to let you know that Eric Ochieng's MRI scan is all clear and will be discharged from hospital shortly."

Ochieng, nicknamed Eagle, released a statement on his Facebook account, suggesting he had been struggling with the heat.

"I am fine and in good health," he said. "It was too hot in the venue. I was feeling dizzy after a great performance and the paramedics were doing their job for health and safety reasons and routine. God bless, Eagle."

Gallagher took Ochieng's place in the tournament, winning the semi-final before he was beaten on points by Johnny Coyle in the final.
