Ernie Els has been chosen as an ambassador for the South African Olympic team.
Els was one of five ambassadors chosen Wednesday "to inspire and mentor" athletes as South Africa's Olympic committee marked the 100-day countdown to the London Games with a live TV broadcast.
Rugby sevens player Cecil Afrika, retired soccer player Lucas Radebe, former international cricketer Makhaya Ntini and AIDS campaigner Cynthia Tshaka also were chosen because of their work promoting sport.
Els, who missed qualifying for the Masters this year for the first time since 1993, could represent South Africa at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where golf returns to the Summer Games.
