Onions an injury concern
England hopeful Graham Onions is facing a possible spell on the sidelines with a back problem.
Onions, who returned from a career-threatening back injury four years ago to resume his Test career with England and as a lynchpin for Durham's County Championship-winning team, felt discomfort during the ongoing Division One match against Sussex at Hove.
Durham coach Jon Lewis confirmed the 31-year-old seamer is awaiting the results of scans, having managed to bowl only eight overs in Sussex's first innings.
"Graham has had a scan on his back at a hospital close to the ground," Lewis told durhamccc.co.uk.
"It's been looked at by (physiotherapist) Nigel Kent, but we are still waiting for the radiographer to tell us the results.
"We're hoping it won't be a long absence, but he may require some time away from the field."
Onions is vying with the likes of Chris Woakes, Tim Bresnan, Steven Finn and Harry Gurney to back up Stuart Broad - provided he is fit - and James Anderson in the forthcoming Test series with Sri Lanka.
