Options open for Belardo

Connections of Belardo expect to have formulated a plan for the impressive maiden winner by early next week.

The Lope De Vega colt was not hard pressed to win on his introduction at Yarmouth by two and a quarter lengths and was introduced into the betting for next year's 2000 Guineas by Paddy Power at 25-1.

Trainer Roger Varian wants to see how he comes through a gallop before deciding where he goes next.

Ted Voute, racing manager for owner Prince Faisal said: "Roger said he has come out of the race well but he wants to work him and then make a decision.

"We have the option of running him again fairly quickly or going down a more traditional route.

"The short-sighted way might be to run him at the July meeting but we'll probably make a decision by the end of this week or early next week.

"He looked quite impressive, obviously you are never sure what you are beating in a maiden but he looked nice."
