Palmer outlines Ascription options
Hugo Palmer is weighing up his options after Ascription missed the Cambridgshire due to the quick ground.
The four-year-old was among the market principals for the fiercely-competitive handicap following a most impressive victory at Doncaster, but Palmer felt conditions at Headquarters were unsuitably quick for his charge.
Ascription does hold an entry in the Betfred "Goals Galore" Challenge Cup at Ascot next weekend, but as he would have to carry top-weight, Palmer is considering stepping him up to Pattern level.
"He'll continue to be ground dependant, but there is talk of rain in the next few days, so we'll see what happens," said the Newmarket-based trainer.
"He has options. If the Cambridgeshire was the only race left this year we could run him in I'm sure we'd have run, but there are other races he can run in.
"He is entered at Ascot next week and if it came up soft he could run there, although I would be slightly hesitant about him carrying top-weight.
"There is the Darley Stakes at Newmarket (October 12), which is a Group Three, and there is a Listed race in France, the Prix du Ranelagh at Longchamp.
"There are a few races and I'm in no rush to decide where he'll go."
